Auto Express magazine tested a selection of Sat Navs this year for a feature they did called Best Sat-Navs 2018: Group Test Review. They divied Sat Navs into two types, Live Sat Navs with live traffic updates and rerouting dependent on traffic flow and non-live sat navs, which are the more traditional type. Their verdict was that the very best was the TomTom GO 6200 with the Garmin DriveLuxe 51 LMT-D in second place. Garmin’s Drive 51 was their non-live budget choice with the TomTom Start 52 in second place.
What Car did a group test – Best Sat Navs 2018 – Product Group Test. Their verdict was that the TomTom VIA 53 was best with the Garmin Drive 51 Europe LMT-S in second place and the TomTom Start 52 in third.
Any magazine or website doing comparison tests will have their own criteria by which they judge the performance of the units. They will also not always be testing the same sat navs. They’ll make a selection and test and compare those, so it is difficult to get a commonly accepted understanding of which is the best and which is the best value for money. Having looked at a number of reviews it seems that price is an excellent indicator of quality and lifetime map upgrades is a feature to look out for. Here is a selection available on Amazon.
